A Big Tree

Big Tree as it is referred to by the locals or otherwise known as McBaine's 'big tree'. This was on my honey-do list for the weekend, a 20 minute drive to see....a big tree. McBaine is a town of 17 people with 12 houses, on the way there you pass through some areas that could have been the background for the movie Winter's Bone (oh yes, that WAS based in Missouri). For you tree buffs, it is a really big tree, 90 feet in height, 3-400 years old, 24 feet in circumance and about 8 feet in diameter. We had to wait for about 20 minutes to get a picture while a Boy Scout troop posed for about 678 pictures or decide to include them in our family picture album. That little red spot is Jenny...

Further down the road I took this picture of a Boat Grave Yard...posted NO TRESSPASSING...now come on...you plant boats in your yard and you don't expect people to stop and climb the fence to take a picture...it's right next to Coopers Landing (home of a famous Thai restaurant) by the way on the Missouri River.

Thanksgiving weekend is coming to a close, the kids are back in Florida preparing for finals and Christmas is just around the corner. While T cooked a pizza on the Big Green Egg I put up our tree and started decorating the house.

Can't wait for the kids to return in a few weeks for Christmas.

This weekend’s weather was exceptional for November and the animals all enjoyed a few hours in the yard and the sun.

This is Jordon; referred to by the Humane Society as a 'miniature German Shepherd' he is a mixed breed rescued from Dead Dog Beach in Puerto Rico a couple of years back.

He hates the camera so this shot was taken with a 600MM lens from about 50 feet away...he's also protecting a rib eye bone (his second of the day).

Wildlife abounds at our house as evidenced by the finch feeding just a few feet from Mr. Squirrel finishing off his corn cob on the tree in the background. 75 degrees today, great day for the Mizzouri vs. Baylor game, just about time to leave for the tailgating...

Bluebird in training...

We built this Bluebird feeder a few days ago and it is designed to allow only bluebirds to enter to get the special worms we put inside it. To get them to use it they have to become familiar with the device. It has two holes in the sides for them to enter when the lid is closed and the glass is placed in the front.

However, initially you put the worms in the feeder with the glass and lid removed (or proped open) so they "discover" the worms. Over a couple of weeks, you replace the glass and then eventually close the lid. A couple of days ago the bluebirds discovered the feeder and now we have moved to replacing the glass and next week the lid will close. These birds are known to stay in the area during the winter so when the lid is closed they will be able to enter and exit the box from either side and have worms all winter long.

Some of you may think I am crazy, but I love fall...however being back in the Midwest brings with it the fall chores. Raking leaves for instance. Okay, so SOME of fall isn't all it's cracked up to be but today was a fantastic shirt sleeve day so into the yard I ventured to rake some leaves.

My Husband Planted a Pole...

I guess this was my fathers day gift from my husband...a clothesline pole.

It is becoming abundantly clear that he is anxious for me to arrive in Columbia so his 'house-chores' can subside. He must be getting tired of the washer and dryer routine if he is this motivated...on a Sunday, in 95 degree heat, on Fathers Day...digging a hole, mixing cement, a real man-job. Wow!

All for little ole' me...I can't wait to arrive and hang his underwear on it week after week...Happy Fathers Day to All!

End of Year Performance

A picture of the kids, Megan (Maggie) and Derek (D) all grown up, ages 18 and 22. Taken Thursday eve. after Megan's senior ballet performance.

There was no lack of tears when she danced solo and then with her male partner to end the evening. This was her 12th year performing with Florida Arts and Dance Company and we will really miss seeing all these wonderful performances.

When we get the pictures from the photographer I'll post some of them here for everyone to enjoy.

Sunfest 2009

What a weekend. Our Son's band Wait For Green was featured on the Coors Light Stage Saturday night at Sunfest in West Palm Beach. It was almost sureal to see him on stage playing drums at such a huge venue.

Of course it's their dream to hit the big times and who knows. It was a huge moment for them and a real rush to some really proud parents here. Look them up on myspace/waitforgreen or on youtube.com search wait for green for some videos.

That's my hubby, in Columbia, MO using our Big Green Egg for the first time since it was delivered last week during the move. I can't wait to get there so we can enjoy those weekend cookouts and I can take the weekends off from cooking, Ha.
